"In my compositions, predominantly the more progressive material, you'll find I'm passionate about three things; the soul, the apocalypse, and God. There's nothing scarier, more controversial, or more magnificent than these three things. To me, that makes some awesome music."
Johnny Newman is an electro-symphonic rock guitarist/composer from Kodak, Tennessee and studies acoustic and electronic composition full-time under the direction of Dr. Kenneth Jacobs. Johnny first began intently composing during his junior year of high school when he got his first Boss 864 digital recorder; ever since, he has always had a composition or two in the works with ideas coming in an endless supply. Inspired by music from the symphonic-rock genre, Johnny arranged a symphonic rock rendition of the "Phantom of the Opera" theme for his high school concert band and had the privilege of performing it with them at their Spring concert in Market Square and at their graduation ceremony in the Knoxville Civic Auditorium. After being a Studio Music/Jazz major for a year at the University of Tennessee, Johnny decided to switch over to Composition and never looked back. Outside of college, Johnny composes music for his music project 'Aeolian Jazz' and has an album planned for release in Summer 2007. Additionally, he performs with Christian-rock band 'Released' and plays electric guitar for Jefferson City Christian Church.
