Jess is an award-winning composer who began his studies at Western Kentucky University under Dr. Charles W. Smith. He is currently studying for his Master's Degree in Composition at the University of Tennessee under Dr. Ken Jacobs. In addition to composition, Jess plays piano, electric bass, and trombone. He has performed in almost every type of ensemble from Texas Blues to Orchestra. After completing his Master's work, Jess is planning on getting his D.M.A.
