"Music is an inward cry, a wordless prayer, a hunger, a yearning for something outside of ourselves. It's a dream, an intangible reality, an invisible force entering through the ears and claiming the heart, it's a dance of the soul, it is faith calling to existence things fleeting, yet eternal."

Dosia McKay was born and raised in Poland. At the age of nine she began her studies at the local Elementary School of Music in Wejherowo, with classical guitar as her major instrument, but soon chose to pursue flute and piano instead. She continued her education at the State School of Music and General Education in Gdansk. As a member of the symphony orchestra and women's chorale she traveled to Hungary, Switzerland, and Germany. She graduated with honors, majoring in flute performance under Ewa Pinno and Katarzyna Wittschenbach. In 1991 Dosia came to California to join the Celebrant Singers, with whom she traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, France, Italy, Malta, Greece, and Albania. Since 1994 she has made Tennessee her home. Dosia has been studying composition at the University of Tennessee School of Music under Dr. Kenneth A. Jacobs and Dr. James R. Carlson. Her Danse Macabre for piano trio won the Southeastern Composers' League's Arnold Salop Memorial Composition Contest in 2007 and was a co-winner on the regional level of the Society of Composers Inc./ASCAP Student Composition Competition in 2007. She is a recipient of the School of Music Scholarship. Dosia's music has been featured at the East Tennessee State University, King College in Bristol, TN, Southeastern Composers League's Forum at the School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, College Music Society's Southern Chapter conference at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL, as well as in recitals in Knoxville, TN. In April 2008 Dosia has been named the Presser Scholar by the UT School of Music for 2008-2009. Dosia is an avid flutist with a special interest in chamber music. She is a member of the Empyrean Winds Quintet. She is also a graphic artist. Her digital paintings are collected around the United States and in Europe.
